Poll Of The Aeon
Poll Of The Aeon was a long-running fixture at StickManStickMan, and fortunately, all the comments were saved - though not the polls themselves, so I've had to guess at them a bit. Enjoy.
-
[unknown]
- Well, what do I know? ~Sam
- Sweet, second vote! :)
- Woo! Number 3!
- Of course, being at school with a T1 connection, I don't mind that they are large, but perhaps for some of the, shall we say, 'less-privileged' people, it might be best to make it a tad smaller. ~Shadow
- One might consider this poll thing an informal message board. Beats ezboard by a LONG way.
- just a thought: would they be smaller (sizewise) as GIFs? what with them all being black and white, and everything? -- Jymbob
- GIFs sadly won't do the trick, they're actually bigger.
-
[some question about Doctor Who]
- At least I'm not alienating my readership, then.
- Who-ies of the world, unite!
- Let's get technical: He's the Doctor. Doctor Who was the name of his show. None of the shows (except one naff film) ever called it Doctor Who and the... It was always Doctor Who: the... A regular quote in both the TV series and the books was "This is the Doctor" "Doctor who?" "Just Doctor." so.. um.. there. -- Jymbob
- I stand corrected...
-
What do you think of the new layout? [or words to that effect]
- Not too busy. Easy to use. What morecan be said? (Oh yeah: could you link to the archives please? For us BuR hunters, you know) -- Jymbob
- You could always add more things, make the site look spiffy, and make things a heck of a lot more complicated. Or, things could just be left as they are. I'm up for the second option.
- Link to where in the archives? There's an "archive" button at the top of every page...
- Spiffy it is then! :p
- Have to say I don't like the new layout. Mind you, I've always hated the colour purple after that... accident.
- well at least people are voting now, lol. Don't worry, purple is the colour most easily changed. I can revert to the old layout anytime...
- Gotta say, I much preferred the old layout. The new one won't stop me reading the excellent comic strip but myeh, it looked so much better before :(
- Takes a little longer to load, but I like the font used at the top...and that picture with teh coat is cool, though seems a little cliched....but I still like it better than the other one :).
- Purple = gone. Maybe it's the illegible buttons that are causing the problem. I've changed them to something more standard. Better? Worse? The banner stays, btw :)
- Yeah, the buttons are much better now. I like the picture - it's cool, but not as human as the one before.
- That's a hell of a lot better than yesterday. ;-)
- I would have to say that while I like the idea of renovating, I personally think it looks just a bit too startling, it was a shock at first :) I think it might be a little bit harder to find your way around as well. I guess this means that it looks "okay" but not that great. ~Shadow
- Wooo!!!! first post!!! /me is flamebait

Favourite number?
- Zero > all (in a manner of speaking)
- How interesting: zero has one vote and one has zero votes...
- It's pretty close between e and i but in the end i's the more useful. Wait did I just give a sensible answer?
- It was a close one between pi, e, i and 0 for me, actually. They're all terribly useful, but the poll was about favorites. Since I'm a complex guy, I chose i. ;-)
- coincidentally, i'm eating pumpkin pi. about 3.141592653589793... radians worth of it [half]. p.s. it's youse from the elite!
- It's practically neck and neck with i leading by 8 votes to 7 over pi, with Euler's number a close third. Meanwhile zero and one trail far behind - but does anyone even care about the plucky addititive and multiplicative identities? Are circles more important than complex numbers? Stay tuned for the thrilling climax! For certain definitions of "thrilling".
- i wins by a single vote. New poll!
-
Heads or tails?
- I'm going to actually toss a coin once I get enough votes for this one.
- And tails takes lead, with no competition from heads as of yet...DJS
- Since infancy I've had a lasting fear of the tails side of coins.
- I see somebody worked out that you can vote more than once!
- The heads/tails votes have been saved.

[asking for comments on the new Oracle doohickey, which dispensed a random phrase on every load of the page]
- Hmm....someone's been influence by the propensity of braces in maths lectures...Looks better, anyway
- Keep it where it is, but make it more prominent
- I like it where it is, just needs to be a little bigger
- interesting addition
- Where's the "I know I put it there" option?
- heheh, good idea...
- Ahem: M$ Eggshell 'leaner and meaner'? pfft. Brought to you by the 'RISC OS Lives!' advocate (o:
- leaner and meaner than hand-powered .txt files. Just TRY adding a new BuR now...
- Clearly you want to know what bus it is so that you can avoid it at all costs.
- *need suggestions for the new poll*
- Should you really bad-mouth Corpus so publicly darling boy?
- Yes badmouthing Cambridge colleges is always good
- Keenspace has hit major server problems, and I'm unable to update the front page. So I'm sorry for the lack of comics. ~Sam
-
It's getting hot in here. What do you do?
- i hate nelly
- I like the new storyline links. very useful. Makes browsing the archive easier. --Jymbob (BuR hunter)
- Apologies, didn't update for some reason over the last few days
- So, tell me, what's with the woman doing 'commentary' on the six nations? (I'm a woman and I hate it.)
-
Cake or death?
- ...no, I mean cake-- Ooh, alright then... DJS
- You appear to be out of cake, so I'll have the chicken, thankyou. -- Jymbob
- whose death?
- Definitely death. It doesn't go splat if you drop it.
- I refuse to answer this question until you give me specific details on the types of cake and death we are discussing
- Cake>Death
- The cake in question is chocolate fudge cake. The death is death by beheading.
- But what if you beheaded someone with a cake?! I dunno about chocolate fudge, but I know fruitcake can do it. I've seen it myself! [shudders]
- Well, no one's ever said, "Let them eat death."
- Except possibly in really cheesy Action movies. -- Jymbob
- Let them eat LEAD!
- Let them eat TACOS!!! Oh, wait, was this supposed to be relevent?
- Mmmmmm tacos
- Irrelevance is good.
-
[asking whether my readers care about my everyday life, as is so often mentioned in news posts]
- So long as you don't bitch about how bad your life is ^.^
- Well yea but only because I actually know you, besides it's always fun to laugh at bad things happening in Cambridge
- Yeah, if only because I'm a voyeuristic American and reading about British cartoonists is better than most reality shows.
- Yeah, if only because I'm a voyeuristic American and reading about British cartoonists is better than most reality shows.
- Where's the "I don't even look at the polls" option? Oh, wait...
- It's interesting.
- Just looking at the poll at the moment, an unless my maths has *really* got bad in the last couple of years, 84+0+15 is 99... -- Jymbob
- Rounding error, you get them all the time in polls.
- Forum? What forum?! Are you holdin' out on me!? I swear, if you are, I may be forced to chew off my own foot!
- Perhaps I should make the link a bit more prominent sometime. I'm working on it. ~Sam
- Ah well Sam looks like your plan to find the eprfect woman by creating a web cartoon has failed Sam
- Not entirely! Hah!
- Wow. I figured I was IN the minority, but I didn't anticipate that I WAS the minority. ;)
-
Pi or pie?
- mmmm pie
- Looks like you've got either a site full of maths lovers, or independant pilm lovers, Sam. -- Jymbob
- PI IS EXACTLY THREE!
- *GASP!* Impossible!
- where THREE == Pi. there. -- Jymbob
- How many places of pi have you memorised now? Do I print the t-shirt yet?
-
[users had to choose from "i", "eye", and "aye"]
- Aye, eh? Oh, aye, I aye. You aye?
- YES
- eyp.
-
Favourite X-Man?
- 497 votes for one character?! Something's amiss...
- haha, I really should disallow multiple votes :)
- Maybe it's just an extreme case of schizophrenia.
- Or maybe the comic suddenly became very popular with the "I want to be Mystique" crowd. Very popular. Very suddenly.
- And very briefly.
- In a strange twist of fate, today's oracle(20030528) currently reads: Will prove theorems for food. Coincidence? -- Jymbob
- I put that phrase in, you know.
- it would be hard for us to know you put that phrase in not knowing who you are and all :p
- Me being Sam.
- shush
- Then you put most of them in
-
Are you Dave Gorman?
- Wow, an awful lot of our readers are named Dave Gorman!
- Does it count if I was Dave Gorman ina dream?
- Sure, why not.
-
Best movie trilogy?
- other is a pretty good film IMO.
- I just loved the plot twist in other
- I'm reserving judgment on this one: it's either going to be the Matrix trilogy or the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Neither of which are technically 'a movie', but oh well. -- Jymbob
- If we're talking best trilogy, it's got to be the original Star Wars trilogy. Or the Godfather trilogy a close second. Part III really isn't /that/ bad yo. - JM
- Back To The Future trilogy pwns. This means I'm either Suicide Eagle or Packattack :-)
-
Favourite Bond?
- Bond wears cufflinks.
- Bond sucks
- Name'sh Hughesh. Sham Hughesh. A secret agent? No, ma'am. I'm a mathematician.
- No other Dalton fans yet? Anyone? Don't all rush at once... -- Jymbob
- Anybody who doesn't think Connery isn't the baddest m*%#3&f$(#er out of all the Bonds is an idiot and we should pity them. Who the hell said Brosnan is better than Connery? You should be dragged out into the street and shot like the moron you are.
- I voted for timothy dalton to make jymbob feel better
- At least nobody's voted George Lazenby
- Thanks for the pity vote. For the rest of you: Reasons why TD is best: 1. He's Fleming's Bond 2. There is no need for a 2. -- Jymbob
- Connery's the sexiest. That man will be sexy until AFTER he's dead.
-
How old are you?
- do you really think a 0 option is needed?
- Good god, I'm in the "not a teenager anymore" bracket
- Terrifyingly, so will I in a few months.
- so smsm either has a large junior following, or someone hit the submit button lots... -- Jymbob
- Sam you appear to be popular with the under tens. hmm...
- Your very popular with the children. Better start using more profanity.
- But I'm all out of profane gas! Better buy another canister.
- funnily, i was lucky to see this website start. Now I have it on my list of displayed bookamrks (10 in all). Keep up the good work.
- Count on it. ~Sam
-
Favourite character? [from StickManStickMan]
-
Favourite Matrix movie?
- I know the plot wasa teensy bit thin, but for having the guts to do it, and pulling it off so well as regards loose ends, M3 gets my vote. -- Jymbob
- sam rocks. ~patrick
- Hee hee @ the results ~Sam
- The 3rd was awful: Poor plot, wooden acting, and a sorry excuse for an ending combine to make a sub-par film (especially as this was supposed to be the final hurrah for the matrix.) The first was best by far.
- ending? SPOILERSPOILERSPOILERSPOILERSPOILERSPOILERSPOILERSPOILER!!! What other films kill off the main characters? I mean: practically all of them?
- In Hollywood, actually very few movies kill a lot of major characters...
- 131 votes? that's got to be the most popular poll yet. -- Jymbob
- Blake's Seven?
-
Best book-to-movie transition?
- Jurassic Park is the single greatest movie ever, and you all know it!
- Blade Runner is the best movie, but definetly not the best book to movie translation. ("Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep" kicks the **** out of it :P)
- To be fair, 2001 was created in book and film form simultaneously as well. But I was stuck for ideas :)
- wow. check out the smartness of smsm voters. -- Jymbob
-
Should Tina die?
- 1 vote saying she shouldn't die. So don't let her die!
-
DO NOT VOTE
- do not vote
- DO NOT READ THIS COMMENT
- Do not think of a black rabbit
- wonderfull :D
- isn't it amazing how many people can't obey a simple instruction? -- Jymbob
-
How should it all end?
- First vote, and all that jazz. -- Jymbob Incidentally, I thought Game Over would've been a cracking end to the Matrix trilogy...
- Back to Reality - RD
- to 2 : yes! A mysterious ending is what the matrix needed.
- Looping back pwnz joo. ~Boter
- Everyone dies, no-one quits.
- Ah, but we already know how it ends. On Feb. 1, 2012, the fourth wall will be broken in the last comic.
- try typing the address for feb 2nd, 2012 into your address bar. :)
- It appears I've been outsmarted.
- maybe the poll should be renamed: How does it all end (apart from the 2012 strip)? -- Jymob
-
Game Over. New Game (Y/N)?
- could the last comic not just be an HTML map to strip one or strip 20120202, asking just that question?
- Hah, I reckon the 4th wall has fallen, and sam is the player.
